5 Reasons Why We Are In Love With Barbie Ferreira
We are celebrating the launch of the Moxi Blu YouTube Channel which features our exclusive interview series with model Barbie Ferreira!
The interview was filmed behind the scenes on the day of the Moxi Blu 2017 Collection shoot and we loved having the chance to ask her all about how she became a model and what it’s like to deal with the good, bad and ugly of the industry. We have always felt blessed to have Barbie Ferreira as our featured model for Moxi Blu, but you’ll see that, even more than her famous beauty, Barbie has a quick wit, empathy for everyday girls, and wisdom beyond her years. So, to celebrate Barbie, we decided to come up with a fun list of the 5 Reasons Why We Are In Love With Barbie Ferreira!
1 — Her favorite movie is Heathers
In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Barbie revealed her love for the cult classic starring the dark rebel Christian Slater and his love interest (and accomplice) Winona Ryder. Perhaps the best movie ever about getting revenge on the cool kids, but endangering yourself in the process. We still hold out hope for a Heathers 2 someday!
2 — She Reps for the ‘Good Ol’ Days’ of Coachella
None other than The New York Times just featured Barbie in the lead for their Style Section story on how fashion at Coachella has gone from funky individualism to monotony. They even compare it to a cruise ship for young people…ouch! Barbie told them:
The last time I went, about two years ago, you’d see a lot of people wearing these craziest looks: allover fishnet, braided scarves, flowering head gear, tattoos and zigzagging body art and all kinds of mismatched chains. The point was to be wild, to not look like everybody else.
3 — She is a ‘Digit@l Girl’
Barbie is one of a select group of young models featured in the book Digit@l Girls: Fashion’s New Tribe by Vogue photographer Marko MacPherson, and was also included in a related series on vogue.com called Five Days, Five Looks, One Girl. Why is Barbie a Digit@l Girl? Because she is a savvy blogger, social media star, and she is NEVER afraid to tell you exactly what she thinks! If you have any doubts about that last point…visit our YouTube page!
4 — She Isn’t Afraid to Show Us Her Stretch Marks and Call Out Hypocrites
If you missed this one, you might be living under a rock somewhere! Last winter Barbie made huge waves and stirred lots of conversation when she posted pictures of her own stretch marks on Instagram. Afterwards she received multiple negative comments from women at a fashion shoot! She said, “Not only the consumer is being told they’re not good enough—even the girls in the pictures are given the same shit…Grown ass adults commenting on my teenage body needing Spanx, bra cutlets to make me look ‘better,’ or Photoshopping my body to be ‘smoother’ right in front of me.”
5 — She Is Wise Beyond Her Years and Knows That No One is ‘Perfect’
Barbie, despite being only 20 years old, recently offered this gem of advice to her interviewers at latina.com:
Stop feeding into the social media and Hollywood bullsh*t about having the “perfect” curves or face. All of these standards are wildly crazy, and, in a few years, we’re going to look back and laugh. Cartoonish-looking bodies are completely OK if an adult made the decision to do it, but to show that to so many young girls and tell them that this is natural and what’s sexy makes me uneasy. Be aware that these people spend thousands of dollars to look a certain way with Photoshop, makeup, treatments … so much of it has nothing to do with genetics — stop being hard on yourself.
